Description
This paper investigates the natural age hardening behaviour of an additive friction stir deposited aluminum 7075 sample that was studied over 15 weeks. The maximum hardness value within the deposited material increased from a Vickers hardness of 113 HV on the day of deposition to 147 HV 15 weeks after deposition. The hardness values of the baseplate and first layers remained stable, while the material in the uppermost layers aged most significantly. The hardness values are compared to the commercially available stock material used for the deposition process.
